Hino Zimbabwe Website Design Case Study

Introduction

Hino is an international brand that is a subsidiary of Toyota, which focuses on producing commercial trucks and buses . Following a digital rebrand they sought to to do, they looked to create a website which followed the guide of hino-global.com

Project Goal

The team sought to create a digital platform which enabled for their target audience to understand the offerings of the brand, understand the brand and schedule service & maintenance checks.

The main deliverable would be a website which had the following features:

  • 360* truck rotation feature
  • A truck builder option
  • Adaptive to the time of the day

The Current Brand

An analysis of the Hino Zimbabwe brand's collateral highlighted that although the brand had a great deal of shortfalls that prevented it from capitalising on the digital space. The brand did not have a solid digital footprint to clearly shine it as an independent brand under the Toyota LLC brand.

The resolve was to create a digital strategy which would include social media management and a new website direction

My role was to design and prototype the website's interface and user experience based off of the Hino-Global website

Project Process

Research & Analysis

I worked with the marketing team to carry out an analysis of the brand's marketing philosophy for regional branches.

A general conclusion was that the brand did not have a uniform guide of how its subsidiary branches were to represent themselves while identifying along the global brand

Target Audience

Hino Zimbabwe has 3 target personas which the brand prioritises to generate revenue. These include:

  1. Commercial Businesses
  2. Logistic Businesses
  3. Small Logistic Businesses

Brand Shortfalls

  • The brand did not have a consistent digital footprint which would provide a clear guide of how the brand was supposed to represent itself
  • The website which the brand currently had was based on a wordpress template which did not clearly highlight how the brand provided value to its clients & partners

Project Experience

Throughout the project development phase the 360 deg feature poised a challenge in developing and I had to look into how to create a 360 deg illusion.

My initila thought was to create a 3d model of the specific hino trucks (300,500 & 700 series) however the time to create hen would not fit within the project timeframe.

Ultimately I resorted to suggesting using a carousel that would change images on drag creating a 360 deg illusion.

Project Outcome

The project was a success as the design I created was developed and launched following a few user tests to ensure the product worked as intended.
